Penetrations in New Clini-Lab Roof Create Challenges

JM Focuses on the Details

Denver, Colorado (3/15/1999) --- Jeff Spriggs, president of 4-year-old United Single-Ply faced a number of challenges when his company was selected to roof the new Southern California Clini-Lab in Pasadena. Due to the type of facility, the roof had many penetrations and pitch pockets.

Southern California Clini-Lab - UltraGard installation
Johns Manville UltraGard® PVC membrane was selected because it is particularly well suited for this type of project. UltraGard prefabricated systems can be made into sizes that best fit the needs of the buildings they cover. Therefore, the prefabricated sheets were made according to the accepted roof drawing which speeded installation time and reduced waste. In addition, prefabricated accessories including pipeboots, round pitch pans and PVC coated metal for pitch pans and base flashings are extremely important for leak-proof integrity.

The Clini-Lab houses a great deal of expensive diagnostic equipment and could not afford a leaking roof. In order to create a positive slope, Kevin Pagnani, the project superintendent for United Single-Ply put down a Tapered ISO 1™ pre-cut cricket system followed by 2.6 inches of ISO 1 insulation. The 4-inch UltraGard SR-80 membrane was then mechanically attached.

"UltraGard is a superior product for this type of job," said Spriggs. "We also had exceptional technical support from Richard Ramirez and Charlie Henry with Johns Manville."
