National Hardware Show - Johns Manville Introduces New Fiber for Blow-in Fiber Glass

Attic Protector™ Now More Efficient, Better Coverage

Denver, Colorado (8/16/1998) --- Johns Manville (JM) is introducing new Xtralon™ fibers to its Attic Protector™ blow-in fiber glass insulation product that are scientifically designed to add more coverage per pound yet maintain desired thermal efficiency - R-value.

JM's Attic Protector is the only fiber glass blow-in product in the market specifically designed for use by DIYers and small-business contractors. "Xtralon fibers allow the new Attic Protector to yield up to 32 percent more coverage per pound than before," said Scott DeShetler, business manager for JM's retail insulation group. "Attic Protector is a premium alternative to cellulose with all the advantages of fiber glass."

In addition to excellent insulating performance, Attic Protector is naturally clean, noncorrosive, noncombustible and is not prone to absorb moisture. Fiber glass is the most widely used insulation, partially because it's cleaner to use and holds its insulating power. Studies show an alternative product, cellulose, commonly settles as much as 20 to 25 percent over time, losing R-value. Installers need to compensate for that loss by adding greater thickness at the time of installation. Properly installed, Attic Protector fiber glass insulation typically settles only one to three percent and maintains its R-value.

Attic Protector is lightweight and can be installed up to R-70 over half-inch ceiling drywall without exceeding ceiling weight limits. Finally, Attic Protector bags cover 43.7 square feet of attic at an R-19 compared to 25-square feet for typical cellulose packages. This reduces the number of bags required for a job by more than 42 percent.

Attic Protector is designed for installation with a WASP blowing machine, so even hard-to-reach attic areas are easy to insulate. The WASP blows the white cotton-like insulation through a long hose, shooting it several feet and filling large areas and small gaps quickly and completely.
