Johns Manville Introduces New Blow-In Fiber Glass to Canada

Climate Pro™ Offers More Efficient and Better Coverage

Denver, Colorado (6/10/1999) --- Johns Manville (JM), a leading manufacturer of fiber glass insulation, will produce blowing wool insulation at its Innisfail, Alberta, plant beginning in August. The new production line will be the first to produce JM's blowing wool product -- Climate Pro™ -- outside of the United States.

Once production in Innisfail begins, JM will phase out its existing Rich R-Gold™ blowing wool and offer the Canadian market a virgin fiber glass blowing wool. Rich R-Gold is a by-product of batt insulation production.

"The new production line in Innisfail signifies Johns Manville's commitment to the Canadian market," said Steve Wing, Johns Manville's director of marketing. "Climate Pro is a superior product which will satisfy the blowing wool needs throughout all of Canada."

Climate Pro was introduced to the Canadian retail market earlier this year in anticipation of the oncoming production capability. It has been imported into Canada for the contractor market since 1997.

Scientifically designed to provide more coverage per pound than cellulose, Climate Pro maintains a desired thermal efficiency - R-value (RSI).

"Climate Pro is a premium alternative to cellulose with all the advantages of fiber glass," said Jo Anne Cambruzzi, market manager for JM's blowing wool products. "In addition to excellent insulating performance, Climate Pro is naturally clean, noncorrosive, noncombustible and will not absorb moisture."

Johns Manville's advanced technology has produced an insulation that is naturally flame-resistant. Unlike cellulose, Climate Pro doesn't rely on flame retardant chemicals that may eventually dissipate. Additionally, Climate Pro™ won't rot, decay, support fungal growth or provide sustenance for animals.

Fiber glass is the most widely used insulation, partially because it's cleaner to use and holds its insulating power. An alternative product, cellulose, unless installed 20-25 percent thicker to compensate for eventual settling, will not retain its full R-value. Installers must compensate by adding greater thickness at the time of installation. Properly installed, Climate Pro fiber glass insulation typically settles only one to three percent and maintains its R-value.

Climate Pro is lightweight -- a critical feature for the Canadian market -- and can be installed up to R-60 (RSI - 10.6) over half-inch ceiling drywall on 24-inch O.C. framing without exceeding ceiling weight limits.

Finally, Climate Pro bags cover 35.5 square feet of attic at an R-40 (RSI - 7.0) compared to 18-square feet for typical cellulose packages. This reduces the number of bags required for a job by nearly 50 percent, saving time and space.

Johns Manville is a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality building products. The 141-year-old Denver-based company had sales of $1.8 billion in 1998. Johns Manville employs approximately 9,200 people and operates 54 manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and China.
