Johns Manville Insulation "Product of Choice" for Next Generation of Homes, Home Offices

Denver, Colorado (2/9/2001) --- Johns Manville (JM), a leading manufacturer of premium-quality building products, has been selected to provide insulation for three, next-generation model homes built for the 2001 Live/Work project in Atlanta. The models, which will be showcased at the Feb. 9-12 International Builders' Show, also in Atlanta, feature professional office space for the at-home worker, in addition to traditional but separate living areas.

Johns Manville became an underwriting sponsor of the Live/Work project at the suggestion of one of JM's Performance Home® Contractors, Woodman Insulation. Woodman has exclusively used Johns Manville products since it opened in 1986.

The Live/Work project was launched in 2000 by Beazer Homes, the eighth largest builder in the country, Builder Magazine and Duany Plater-Zybeck & Co., an architectural firm known for its new urbanism designs. The three companies wanted to build state-of-the-art homes that provide professional office space with a separate living area for those who work from home. The project also aims to help revitalize downtown areas not only by providing store-front businesses, but also by having professionals live in the same area.

Beazer Homes, headquartered in Atlanta, asked frequent subcontractor Woodman what insulation it suggested for the model homes. Woodman recommended Johns Manville's insulation and, in turn at Woodman's suggestion, Johns Manville agreed to provide all the necessary insulation products for the project.

"Woodman convinced me Johns Manville's poly-encapsulated ComfortTherm® insulation batts were the highest-quality products to use and emphasized how easily they can be installed," said Amy Padis, project manager for Beazer Homes' Georgia division.

Woodman salesman David Davies explained, "JM's poly-encapsulated ComfortTherm® batts cut down on the itch and dust that can make insulation uncomfortable to install."

For each of the three Live/Work home models, named the Lifespan, the Loft and the Livabove, Woodman used poly-encapsulated ComfortTherm® insulation batts for exterior thermal insulation and interior sound control.

The National Association of Home Based Business reports that more than 55 million people worked from their homes in 2000 and that home-based businesses are growing at a rate of 8,000 a week. The association also reports that home-managed businesses are the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. economy, with an annual growth rate of 10 percent.
