Industrial and Air Handling Insulations Available from Johns Manville

Denver, Colorado (6/4/2003) --- A recent fire at a Johns Manville plant in Defiance, Ohio, has limited supply of the company’s Micro-Lok® Pipe Insulation and caused JM to end production of pre-formed round air duct products. All other JM products for industrial and commercial applications are readily available.

Micro-Flex® Pipe and Tank Wrap is a semi-rigid fiber glass blanket with a random fiber orientation that allows the material to wrap pipes and equipment without gaps. Originally designed for large pipes and vessels, it also can be used to insulate pipes as small as 8-10 inches (200-250 millimeters) in diameter, making it a suitable substitute for Micro-Lok in many applications. Micro-Flex will be stocked at JM’s Cleburne, Texas plant so it can be shipped in mixed loads. Other products unaffected by the fire include Zeston® and Ceel-Co® PVC fitting covers and jacketing, and Spin-Glas® equipment and board insulations.

The Industrial Insulation Group (IIG), a joint venture owned by Industrial Mineral Holdings (IMH) and Johns Manville, also continues to supply industrial insulations without interruption. The recent addition of mineral wool to their existing product line of calcium silicate and perlite pipe board and block insulation gives IIG the most comprehensive insulation offering for industrial plants.

The popular Spiracoustic® Plus system for lining round air ducts with simple snap-in-place insulation is still readily available. JM is also accelerating development of a similar product for metal round ducts with diameters smaller than 18 inches, to be introduced late this summer. Pre-formed round products, Rigid Round™, Super Round® and Spiracoustic®, will no longer be produced by Johns Manville, but will be supplied until existing inventory is depleted.

The supply of Permacote® and Linacoustic® RC duct liners and SuperDuct® and Micro-Aire® duct board continues as usual. MicroLite® XG, a formaldehyde-free, flexible insulation for wrapping air ducts, also is being delivered without interruption.

“As a market leader in pipe and air handling insulations, we are acting quickly to restore manufacturing and to innovate new solutions for our customers affected by events in Defiance,” said Paul Roessel, vice president and general manager of the Performance Materials Division for Johns Manville.
