Glass Textile Wallcovering Installation Instructions

  1. (Optional) Size the wall with an adhesion-promoting acrylic primer that retains a permanent tack (e.g., R35 Pro 935 adhesive-promoting acrylic primer/sizer manufactured by Roman Adhesives, Inc., Calumet City, Illinois). This is a clear non-staining material.

  2. Strike a vertical plumb line on the wall using a 4' or 6' level.

  3. Cut the wallcovering. Make a pencil line to mark the pattern match from one cut piece to the next. Do not cut too many pieces ahead. The pencil line is important as the wallcovering becomes more opaque when in contact with the paste. Some patterns have a black thread woven in to assist in matching patterns.

  4. Apply a heavy duty clear non-staining wallcovering paste to the wall using a 3/8" nap roller. Keep the containter closed as much as possible. Apply enough paste (about a nickle's thickness) to hold without saturating the wallcovering. Ultra Clear Roman Pro 880 (Roman), Dynamite 785 (formerly Gibson-Homans Shur Stik 785), Dynamite 234 (formerly Evans 00234) are recommended.

  5. Wallcovering is rolled at the factory so the outside exposed surface of the roll is applied against the wall and the other side is the intended decorative surface.

  6. Hang the wallcovering matching the pencil marks. Butt seams; no need to double cut. A vertical light helps show the pattern for the match.

  7. Lap inside corners about 1/4". Less than a full width piece is advisable.

  8. For outside and inside corners, soften the wallcovering surface with a damp sponge. This will allow the wallcovering to bend around the corner without bridging. If the corner is not square, a double cut joint may be required.

  9. Broad knife (rounded corners on the broad knife) the surface to remove air bubbles. Do not apply excessive pressure to avoid pattern degradation.

  10. Finish seams with the broad knife. Do not use a seam roller.

  11. Allow 24 hours to dry.

  12. Feel the wall for air bubbles. Apply a small cut at bubble; inject paste and smooth with the seam roller. Air bubbles must be corrected before painting.

  13. Apply a primer, then the finish paint coat (or two coats of the same paint). Follow the paint manufacturer's recommendations.
